Sending children to summer camp is a great way to help children grow and learn. Summer camps can be a fun and exciting experience for children, but parents should still check to ensure their children are also safe when away from home. This video and transcription from CBS News – Dallas, Fort Worth compiles a list of questions parents can ask camp directors to ensure that the camp program is safe and provides ways to prevent harmful events, including, but not limited to, sexual abuse and grooming. It is encouraged for parents to ask about how staff members are recruited and trained and what policies are in place to protect children. The video also recommends parents do some research about camps from websites and referrals. Another recommendation is to talk to children before and after the camp about protecting themselves and asking broad questions about their camp experience.
